Barbara Colvin

Specialized Professional Competence
With over 15 years of technology delivered learning, Barbara brings much expertise in the design, development and implementation of learning solutions; blending the best of the emerging and established instructional technologies. Her combination of technology, project management and strategic planning skills give her a unique viewpoint from which to serve clients.

Experience/Background
Prior to becoming a consultant with St. Charles Consulting Group (StCCG), Barbara was the Director of Quality Assurance with a SaaS startup. While there, she created tools and processes for testing their Talent Management suite of products, operationalized their partnership network and analyzed talent management workflows in order to create functional specifications.

Before joining SaaS, Barbara was a Manager in Arthur Andersen’s Performance and Learning Division. In this role, she led teams of designers, developers and graphic artists to create a wide variety of instructional products, including job aids, performance support systems, online methodologies, computer and web-based training, interactive simulations and online communities. She led the technology arm of a multi-faced learning solution that combined on-site instruction, web-based training, community interaction, database repositories and online evaluation. She also served as the technology liaison for Business Consulting Education. In this role, she led a team of managers in a re-visioning process, to transform the division into a leaner, more efficient development machine.

Throughout her career, Ms. Colvin has been passionate about the blend of technology and learning. She served on a nationwide panel of evaluators for learning management systems. She created a methodology for analyzing the effectiveness of computer based training with respect to its instructional design, technical design and implementation. Although her career has tracked into the direction of project leadership and strategic planning, at heart she is still a developer and seeks every opportunity to push the envelope on the use of emerging learning technologies.

Education/Professional Achievements
Barbara had every intention of working in Finance. While at the University of Illinois’s College of Business, she was offered an internship to work overseas, authoring computer-based training products for the International Finance and Commodities institute. What began as an internship turned into a career, and she’s never looked back.
