James Cornehlsen is an Executive Coach who assists senior executives in
creating greater value by helping to improve senior leadership effectiveness and
high potential development. The focus is behavioral change linked to business
results that are based on the need for strong personal self-awareness around
emotional competence, leadership style, and the climate they create for others.
Part of Jim’s coaching practice is focused on helping senior executives adapt to
change. Increasingly, he has found that coaching for improved results and team
building are critical when an executive enters a new environment. The challenge
for real leadership is increased when breadth is needed to improve personal
credibility and presence as required for market leadership. He currently works
primarily with CEOs, presidents or business unit heads. He focuses on the
critical issues of leadership style, managing by influence, and team motivation
and engagement. He has worked with new leaders and succession candidates on the
concerns related to "executive presence".
His career background consists of five years at General Electric, ten years at
McGraw-Hill, and five years at CBS before becoming President of Las Americas, a
Spanish-owned firm engaged in publishing and broadcasting in the U.S. Jim has
more than ten years of professional experience working overseas with residence
in Mexico, Spain, and Canada with strong awareness of cross-cultural
sensitivities.
Jim received a B.A. in English from Dartmouth College. He is a member of the
American Management Association HR Council. He has served on the Board of the
Software Information Industry Association, the Magazine Publisher’s Association,
and the International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruiters (IACPR).
He is a frequent speaker on building for success in growth companies, and
changing CEO leadership needs.
He is certified in the use of: Hay Group Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI),
Leadership Styles Inventory (LSI), and Organizational Climate Inventory (OCI).
Other orientation includes CPI260 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Thomas-Kilman
Conflict Inventory, Campbell, Strong, and Hogan assessments.
